12-03-07 Wednesday 73 days 2115+ Miles There is a storm coming

One this for sure the technology and communication is a benefit for traveling out here.  Riding along across miles and miles of prairie land, you get only a little sense of the vastness, loneliness, and exposure to the elements, that the earlier pioneers came across. On the smartphone I get weather forecasts that  show the hourly changes coming. Tomorrow is forecast for a storm, wind, snow, rain.

Road into the night last night and got in a 50mile day.

Only 13 miles left today to get into Fort Sumner.  I have been here a couple of times when traveling to John’s house, once with Laura my Grand daughter, who is with God. A few years ago I stayed a couple of days to kill time and get to John and Shay’s at an better time, and today. Ironically I get to see more of Fort Sumner while trying to get to see the Grand Children, than I would have ever thought. Not much of a Fan of Billy the Kid. Oh well other things happen as well.

12-03-06 Tuesday 72 days Things got a little tougher today and a route change

Got a email from John that they have ski trip planned this week-end and first part of next week, and plans for the rest of the week. Perhaps later we can meet up.

So I guess I just stay on Hwy 60 to Springerville, Az and then go to the mountain at Nutrioso, AZ early and wait for Helena to meet me there for a couple of days.

The head wind today was gruesome – just put on my IPOD and pedaled.   This road in New Mexico is fantastic – 5′ wide almost glass smooth shoulder.

12-03-05 Monday 71 days – Great Day again 2nd in a row out of Texas

12-03-04 Sunday 70 Days and on the Road Again.

Julie, Raven and I went to Church at Christ the King in Lubbock, where her and John had been baptized. It is a cathedral today, and we had moved away before they could remember much.

I headed out 19th ave to Frankfort ave  and to the Clovis Highway – Rolling down the highway again.

12-03-03 Saturday 69 days – Free ride to Lubbock Texas.

The Extra days spent with Julie, Dale, Raven  and Scott and the boys is being made up with a car ride to Lubbock, Tx. Julie and Raven and I are going to visit Raven’s half sister and my grand niece Hallie. The hard part of this section was getting the trike in the trunk of the Honda with all the other stuff.  Next stop Albuquerque, NM to John and Shay and 4 grandchildren Gabe, Belle, Gracelyn, and Norajane.

12-2-24 Friday thru 12-03-02 Friday days 61-68 – 2000+ miles

The week off in Leonard was much needed to clean up the trike, change out 2 tires, the rear and the left side. Repacked up everything, dropping those items that I had not used in the past 2 months. Some stuff left,  Cloths items, extra socks, pants, spare camelpack insert. Had to repair a hole in the Radical bags that was worn by rubbing on the pavement for day.

I had forwarded the mail to Julie’s address and did the taxes, and CEUs to keep my Texas Insurance Adjuster license.

Michael and I got to add some shoes and odometer to his Recumbent Bicycle and talk about getting in shape. The plan is for him to join me in Idaho when school is out this summer and ride thru Canada  to Fairbanks, Alaska.

Chuck Vibber a friend, who works at Hair Central in Leonard, is from Canada and gave me some good tips for a route to Prince George and beyond.

We all had a great seafood buffet at Lea’s Restaurant. My daughter Lisa was able to join us with Michael and Anthony.

12-2-23 Thursday 60 days Resting and doing to do’s in Leonard, Tx

12-2-22 Wednesday 59 days – Ash Wednesday and New best mileage

12-02-20 Monday 57 days 1,827 Miles- A Benedictine Monastery just where you would expect one?

Again lots of long rolling hills - a slight breeze at my back.

Riding down hwy 287 just past the Richland Chambers Reservoir I see a sign for Thien Tam, Benedictine Monestery, which is Vietnamese for "Heavenly Heart". This is where I am tonight.

This monestery is only 3 years old and on 300 acres. The Monks with the help of the local community and Knights of Columbus are building a beautiful facility for the Glory of God.

This is Brother Dominic, who has guest master duty. He is in front of a new Chapel that houses over a 100 relics of Catholic Saints.

The alter and pews were made in Viet Nam and the Relics with the Saints story are on the walls around the chapel. They hold an 11AM Sunday Mass in English.

The Monestary grounds are beautiful, They have a large building to hold very large retreats and functions. as well as picnic, play areas for guests.

I meet Mike who was helping out with laying out a peach and pear orchard they are planting starting with 100 trees this year.

I hope to return here some time and see the growth of this Holy Place.

The guest house living room - beautiful and restfull. Thank You Lord, again.

Everyday is special surprise and gift from God on this journey.

This is a big change from the tent the last few nights and I can update the Blogg.

and as I am finishing up this entry a huge rain storm is passing overhead. Just to remind me what a gift tonight is.
