One this for sure the technology and communication is a benefit for traveling out here. Riding along across miles and miles of prairie land, you get only a little sense of the vastness, loneliness, and exposure to the elements, that the earlier pioneers came across. On the smartphone I get weather forecasts that show the hourly changes coming. Tomorrow is forecast for a storm, wind, snow, rain.
Road into the night last night and got in a 50mile day.
Only 13 miles left today to get into Fort Sumner. I have been here a couple of times when traveling to John’s house, once with Laura my Grand daughter, who is with God. A few years ago I stayed a couple of days to kill time and get to John and Shay’s at an better time, and today. Ironically I get to see more of Fort Sumner while trying to get to see the Grand Children, than I would have ever thought. Not much of a Fan of Billy the Kid. Oh well other things happen as well.
- Road until 8 pm last night and got in 50 miles. Good night sleep off the right side of this overpass.
- coming into Fort Sumner – where the grave of Billy the Kid is and few thousand Indians. When we remember our past, remember the mistakes not to make again
- Lunch at the Rodeo Grill – it’s open from 6am to 2pm.
- Checked into the Cornado Inn – Ironicly I was here a few years ago when driving out to John and Shay’s and John told me would be better to wait a few days before getting there, so I hung out in Fort Sumner at the library.
- This is neat 60s-70s motel, very clean and with all the usual amenities, mico, fridge, cable, free wifi, coffee pot.
- Like I said eveyday some good things happen – This is Tito the owner, desk clerk, maid and handyman – he gave me a discount since I was riding a bike. He has a lot of pictures of others who have ridden through including other recumbent trikes.
