Sorry no pictures today – Try Google for the Peace River Island RV park for a photo and info on this nice RV park, we stayed at. Good folks are all around. Tried fishing in the Peace river still working on it.
12-06-19 Tuesday 122 days 51 kilometers 30 Miles – Along the Alaska Highway at last –
- The start of the Alaska Highway in Dawson Creek BC. Wow we are way up here on the map.
- adjusting the wagon wheel – everyday something needs adjusting, fixing etc. glad to have my new leatherman tool.
- the country side out side of Dawson Creek, BC
- Maybe we did not get far enough ahead to get out of the rain and catch up on days.
- Lots of traffic out of Dawson – we see quite a few of these emergency medical trucks – since Canada has government medical – each company is required to provide on site level 1 medical unit for every 10 workers and level 3 emergency care for every 30. With all the work in the gas and oil and lumber that is a lot of medical units each company has to provide. The public BC ambulance had another cut back due to budget and now remote places get ambulance service in as little as 8 hours. I guess the private companies get to do it better.
12-06-16 thru 18 Saturday – Monday 121 days 0 miles – Stopped by Uhaul to see if they have a truck – it is raining again.
Unfortunately the photos from last night and the next 3 days seem to be lost from the camera to the PC transfer. While riding out of town in the rain I decided to stop by the Uhaul rental place in 100 Mile house, BC where we had spent the night. I had called the phone number but had not gotten an answer. We stopped and what do you know they were open and had a small moving van truck. Pretty pricey, and Michael and I were already soaked again.
After loading up the Truck and turned on the heater and defroster and drove to Quensnel, BC where at the information center we got a map with the free camping areas on the way to Barkerville, BC. We were able to go to church at St Ann Catholic church before finding a camp site. Sleeping in the back of the van with the bikes. Again the Guardian Angel was directing us. The rain and hail most of the night was terrible. The next day was spent in Barkerville, which is Canada 1861 gold rush site, and most of the town has been restored to the 1860’s with the park staff playing characters of the era. Michael and I spent the whole day there and it rained the whole day. So once again we were able to make good out of stuff.
Sunday we drove to Prince George, BC – thought about dropping off the Van and riding to Dawson Creek, BC. We parked in the Walmart parking lot for the night. Monday Morning raining like crazy again so decided to drive on to Dawson Creek, BC and the mile 0 of the Alaska Highway. Along the way there were some humdinger Thunder and Wind storms, again glad to have keep the van.
12-06-15 Friday 121 days 77 kilometers 46 miles Into the fog and up and down into 100 Mile house great County Park by a rushing stream to camp.
- Morning heading out from Clinton bright and and early out by 6am.
- Well we can not see the up hills and it looks like we are going to heaven.
- The bridge over the CN Railroad the fog is still really thick – waiting here in he quite for Michael to catch up to me.
A lot of photos are lost during the transfer from camera card to PC –
the rain on Friday night and into Saturday Morning convinced me to bite the bullet and rent a UHaul truck to haul the Bikes and us up the road and out of the rain. We are way behind a schedule to make it to Fairbanks, AK in any kind of enjoyable pace.
12-06-14 thursday 119 days It’s a rain day in Clinton, BC – Great bit of history at the Museum and a discount at the motel.
- Had to take another rain day – spent today trying to get a jump up ride by greyhound bus – too much to ship bikes – tried Uhaul to Prince George, bc way too much. The hotel owner and his wife are great.
- Waked to the a really cool local museum in the rain. It is Considered the jewel museum in BC. Learned the Sage brush was brought up with the cattle by the largest Spanish Rancher in the 1830s from Mexico.. Makes sense since I have seen the same type of sage brush from Arizona, Nevada, Oregon, Washington and now British Columbia, Canada – the Ranch name was the San Juan.
12-06-13 Wednesday 119 days 55 Klicks and 31 miles – out of the sagebrush in to the pines and Clinton, BC.
- Morning is just interrmintent showers, rained most of the night – the tarp worked well. My tent ended up in a pool of water. Oh well learning is a continuous process.
- some more up on the way to the Hat Creek Ranch there is Michael looking for treasure along the side of the road. Ford emblems, bungee cords, car keys, etc.
- Here he comes Looking for the flags on the ICE trike.
- Looking back down the Thompson River valley – once again what looked like an all day event was only a couple of hours.
- A train running along the river, they have the best routes and they were here first.
- Hat creek Ranch stop and the sun came out for us.
- Self portrait of Michael on the road.
- Into Clinton, BC – made it up 6 mile grade and the good 10 km down hill. There is a bit of confusion on the distance the history is Miles the current is Kilometers – so towns named 100 Mile house is at highway marker 160K. the conversion is .62 Kilometer per mile. Yes we are staying confused as well.
12-06-12 Tuesday 118 Days 50 Kilometers 30 miles The ride down and out of Kamloops and a great down hill and up hill more rain also.

- Resupply and breakfast at Costco Kamloops before heading out – Cliff Bars and Nature Valley bars stocked up away we go up the hill.
- Looking back towards Kamloops great down ride from the top of grade.
- Only a few minutes ahead of Michael
- The train looks like a model HO scale from up here – the tracks run on along the shore on both sides of the lake. Brian Pope would like this
- We are having fun when the rain lets up. It is all a matter perspective.
- Michael on a really great Down hill – hitting 65kmh what fun he took the lead.
- Whoosh Away he goes down to Savona, BC
- This graffitti caught Michael’s eyel, he was racing along with trains near the highway at about 35kmh.
- This sign means to watch out for garbage trucks ahead – Nice they pick up the trash around here, also lets us know we are coming into a community of some size.
- Brian here come the train along the opposite side of the lake.
- even though it has rained everyday this is considered the desert climate for Canada. These little cactus stay low to the ground so you can step on them easier and sleep with them.
- Set up the tarp just before the downpour for the night started. Michael slept rolled in his sleeping bag and tarp.
12-06-11 Monday day 117 – 68 km 41 miles More good country into Kamloops, BC pleasant short cut and then the climb up – Motel time again.
- Michael is up and up em – asleep by 9pm almost dark, and wide awake by 8am 3 hours after sunrise. we are doing 60+ Klicks (40miles)
- Stopped at Barnhardt road and asked a fellow who was parked there about that road as a short cut into Kamloops – Great fellow, highly suggested the route and it is great. He stayed until Michael caught up to see the ICE Trike
- Really peaceful road to Kamloops Last picture of Canadian and US flag The US flag blew off on a down hill that hit 68km/h (40mph) and not noticed until after the bottom.
- The views are great – and the sun is super – Yes Michael put on Sun Screen today – not yesterday and glows a little.
- This is the grade out of Kamloops – 2000 foot climb up and out from the Fraiser River – This is tough and there is not free camping near Costco for our resupply.
- The view out from a freeway bridge toward Kamloops. Great views – awsome workout.
- It is a long way up – Today has been really something – back in town Keith Anderson from the Kamloops Daily New paper took our picture and interviewed us – may show up in the paper.
- If you think it looks tired you should see his Grandpa. Wow what a climb – Tomorrow 1st stop is Costco for Supplies. Finally finished the 48 packes of oat bars and 24 Cliff Bars. A good Idea though.
- A beautiful view from near the Alpine motel – Another splurge on a motel room, today was mid 80’s and we are beat after another 66km day and heck of climb up.
12-06-10 sunday day 116 – 66 km 40miles – Sunny morning – no luck fishing good ride to Monte Lake and a solid ride, wild camp and we didn’t get to use the bear spray. Oh Well maybe later.

- The view on a beautiful morning out of Vernon, BC
- A few miles up the road from Vernon –
- The climbing begins PapaMike on the Burley Recombant has the lead and get to rest up for Michael on the ICE trike. He needs it.
- and here comes Michael only 10minutes behind – darn I could use more rest.
- Faulkland, BC Canada – While fixing the second flat on the Armadillo Tires – a lady came out of the market and talked with us about our journey – then she gave Michael 25dollars to help with food. He didn’t look that hungry. Nice things happen all the time though.
- We were able the keep the donation in the local econamy across the street – Bacon, Cheeseburger, and great fries.
- Now this is Canada – a Sunny day – You don’t see the mosquitoes while your pedaling, When you stop you feel the thud of the ones chasing you, then the group that passes you, turn around and attack. We have lots of Deets.
- Found a nice camping spot along the road – this was our view as the sun set behind the mountain.
- Looks good enough to sleep in. We have our bear spray, and the bikes and food are down the hill.
12-06-09 Saturday day 115 – 60 km 36 miles waited out the rain to let up at the motel before finally heading out – ended up making church and wonderful dry camping on edge of lake.
- Vigal mass at St James in Vernon BC Canada. Made it in time through the rain.
- Swan Lake RV park – the property Manager gave us a discount and let us camp out on the grass for $20USD. Michael had it from Graduation.
- Michael getting in some fishing for dinner. It was Ramon Noodles and Tuna Fish again.
