- Only 18 miles yesterday out of Magdalena – the wind, up grade, and talking with folks kept the mileage down – This was a nice camp spot. Hwy 60 really quiets down at night.

- The Very Large Array(VLA)- radio telescopes out in New Mexico Looking for messages from outer space – way out there
- Bert Carlsen – is on his way to White sands Missle range in New Mexico – To run in a 26 mile Marathon in honor of the WWII Battan Death March Memorial. Bert has run marathons in all 50 states and 9 countries. Meeting Bert was a real booster, as he says “Just put down the beer, get off the couch and go”.
- It is a pleasant day with light wind – the grade is up and will be until the Contentail divide just before Pie Town
- The restaruant at Datil, NM really nice old place – Talking with one of the locals she said the steer head had been here since at least 1959, when her Dad stopped here on a hunting trip when she was 12yrs old.
- If your coming thru on Hwy 60 this is place had a nice Salad Bar and burger and I enjoyed both.
- As we climb into the mountains the scenery starts to change for the more interesting, and so does my mood. The mountain high or oxygen deprivation sets in.
- Pressing into the night to make some mileage – This rock sillouete caught my eye.
- Camping tonight may be cool – finding he snow to not lay in is easier than missing the cactus.
- Evening history lesson – out side of Datil – Remember now there was a railroad and very large cattle ranches and shipping out here back then.
